Making the decision to circumcise is a hard one. Circumcision: probably one of the most controversial topics in newborn infant males. I make a point of telling all my patients that I am the wrong person to advise for or against in that I am jewish and I do circumcision. I therefore try to stay as neutril as possible and let my patients make the final decision based on their ethnicity, tradition, and social conclusion. I have recently had many patients come forth with their infant sons requesting circumcision because of the American Association of Paediatrics new revised guidelines. In short they are recommending circumcision , whereas in the past they had advocated that there were no health risk benefits, are now stating that there in fact are . The Canadian Pediatric Society said it will review the scientific evidence and update its guidelines soon. Their current position is that the overall evidence of the benefits and harms of circumcision is so evenly balanced that it does not support recommending circumcision as a routine procedure for newborns. They view that when parents are making a decision about circumcision, they should be advised of the present state of medical knowledge and about its benefits and risks
